Workforce Development Training

Building Pathways: The 18th Ward’s Workforce Development Training

This season has been one of our most inspiring yet at The 18th Ward. When we opened applications for our workforce development training, we were humbled and energized to see more than 400 young people apply—a powerful reminder of the hunger for opportunity and growth in our community.

From that talented pool, we were able to hire and train over 150 young people through our workforce development program. Each participant received hands-on experience, job readiness training, mentorship, and the chance to build skills that extend far beyond the workplace. Our goal is not only to provide employment, but also to prepare our young leaders for long-term success in their careers and lives.

We are intentional about measuring impact, because behind every number is a story of growth. Here’s how this season looked:

  • Participation numbers: 400+ applications received, with 150 young people hired and trained.

  • Gender equity: 55% of hires identified as female or non-binary, showing our commitment to inclusive opportunity.

  • Coach certifications: 100% of participants completed our Positive Coaching Alliance training, earning nationally recognized certifications.

  • Youth workforce placements: Nearly 70% of participants transitioned into seasonal or year-round employment opportunities through our program or partner organizations.

  • Fun retention metrics: 92% of youth reported that their experience was both fun and meaningful—because joy is what keeps young people engaged and motivated.

This season’s program has shown us what is possible when opportunity meets ambition. Every young person who steps into our workforce development training brings their own story, their own drive, and their own potential. Together, we are building pathways to brighter futures—one job, one training, one young leader at a time.

Thank you to our partners, supporters, and community for believing in the power of youth and workforce development. With your support, we can keep opening doors and creating impact for hundreds more in the seasons to come.
