Youth Leading the Way

What began with just four high school students in 2019 has grown into a powerful workforce development program that prepares young people to lead sports programs for children across New Orleans.

This fall, The 18th Ward received 413 coaching applications and hired 156 young people, including 78 Coaches in Training. Seventy-three returning coaches are continuing to grow as mentors and leaders. Together, these young people are expected to earn $125,000 this season, and 55 will receive Lyft vouchers to help them get to work safely and reliably.
