Spring Programs Update: Why We Have Waiting Lists — and What We’re Doing About It

Every season, we see the same powerful reminder of why this work matters: more young people want to participate in The 18th Ward programs than we currently have space to accomodate. While waiting lists are never our goal, they reflect the growing demand for safe, structured spaces where youth can play, learn, and lead.

We want families to know that we are actively working to expand access. Our team is developing new programs, expanding partnerships, and training more coaches so we can welcome more young people into The 18th Ward community. At the same time, we are working to raise additional funding that will allow us to open more program slots, support more staff, and create more safe spaces for play across our neighborhoods.

Growth takes time, but every step forward is guided by our commitment to quality, safety, and meaningful impact. If your child is currently on a waiting list, please know that you are not forgotten — your interest helps shape where we grow next.

Together, with community support, we are building a future where every young person who wants a place to belong has one.
