The 18th Ward’s Workforce Development is becoming “Career Ready” with help from Just One Voice
The 18th Ward and Just One Voice have joined forces to launch the Just One Voice Scholars Program, a powerful collaboration within The 18th Ward’s Career Readiness Workforce Development tier. This partnership is designed to equip young leaders in New Orleans with the tools, connections, and confidence needed to thrive in their professional journeys. The 18th Ward’s Workforce Development program annually creates thousands of part-time jobs for youth ages 14–24, providing mentorship, leadership training, and real-world experience through a three-tier system: Coaches in Training, Leadership Development, and finally Career Readiness. In the Career Readiness stage, participants refine their professional skills—developing resumes, connecting with employers, and building networks that prepare them for college scholarships or full-time careers.
Through the partnership with Just One Voice, Career Readiness participants expand their economic mobility by engaging directly with industry professionals and community leaders. The program features Career Readiness Seminars where scholars gain insight into a variety of career fields including business, healthcare, education, law, and public service. The experience culminates each spring with an event where participants present their learning and celebrate their achievements with peers, mentors, and partners.
In recognition of outstanding leadership, one participant each season is honored with the Just One Voice Scholar Award, highlighting a young leader who best exemplifies the shared values of both organizations—integrity, initiative, and service. Members of Just One Voice are invited to meet the scholars, attend exclusive events, and witness firsthand the impact of their support. Together, the 18th Ward and Just One Voice are helping New Orleans youth strengthen their voices, build professional networks, and step confidently into their futures, advancing the shared mission of creating equitable access to opportunity and leadership for all.
